Nature’s Impressionism

There were moments during my time in Maasai Maara when I caught myself completely captivated, almost perplexed, by how closely the reserve seemed to resemble a vast, life-like impressionist painting.

Various elements of nature, especially the tall dry grass, reminded me of the quick, incomplete brush strokes and unblended colors found in Renoir’s Lakeside Landscape and The Skiff (La Yole), and Monet’s The Water-Lily Pond. To be able to witness wildlife through this lens was nothing short of awe-inspiring.
